Emily Atack to host new ITV2 dating show set to fill Love Island gap
I’m not ashamed to admit that when the news broke we would not be seeing another series of Love Island until summer at the earliest, I was pretty devo’d. Love Island shapes my summer and now winter TV schedule, and it’s the light, compelling bit of fun I need in my life. But fear not; ITV is currently cooking up an alternative dating show that sounds every bit as thrilling as our beloved Love Island. I’ll be honest, there’s not a huge amount of readily-available info out there just yet, but it sounds as though The Cabins will be just as gripping as Love Island. The TV show is going to be made alongside 12 Yard Productions, and is asking singletons to apply who are looking for “a real emotional connection” in the current climate of endless swiping and ghosting galore. Unfortunately, this is a detail we’re not yet sure of as news of the show has literally just been announced. But seeing as ITV are still in the process of recruiting their singletons and will be until well into November, when applications close , we’re guessing it won’t be any time this year. I’ve reached out to ITV for further comment and will update this piece as soon as new information becomes available. If the premise of the show sounds like something you’d like to get involved in, you can already apply to become a contestant.
Secret Dates – Formats
Following the cancellation of this year’s summer Love Island and ‘s Winter Love Island it’s understandable if you’re looking for your romantic reality TV fix. ITV2 has commissioned a brand new dating series The Cabins, which sounds like a mix of Love is Blind and Love Island – it’s based on ITV.
The successful format was commissioned by ITV2 and has reached the third country since its launch earlier this year. The British adaptation will be produced by 12 Yard, part of ITV Studios, and is slated to run in in the primetime slot. The show is a huge success in the Netherlands, where SBS6 is currently broadcasting the second series of episodes following the first With its global appeal and local relevance, the show has the scale and can be produced locally, in line with the current Covid protocols.
We are very happy to bring this exceptional dating format to the UK. We believe ITV2 is the perfect home for it, given its positioning and proven success in this genre. This is the first major commission for 12 Yard under the new management team of Managing Director Michael Mannes and Creative Director Liz Gaskall, who took over the reins at the label earlier this year. It is amazing to see the great success of ‘Let Love Rule’, that brings a unique take to the popular dating genre.
